GUYS – if you want to get involved in the racing scene, you literally just have to go to the races and talk to people, and it’s not as hard as you might think, considering that everyone there are like-minded individuals that most likely got onto the scene the same way you are trying to. Last weekend, I attended the GTWC in Atlanta where I ended up meeting the owner of one of the teams and basically was offered a job. Not a driving seat, obviously, but from there you just need to work your way up. Unfortunately, I was not able to take the job given my current situation (student with job), but I’m sure that almost every team could use some help in one way or another. All you have to do is tell them you want to get involved and help in some way!! Even if it’s for free!! I got so much free stuff throughout the weekend (shirts, hats, signatures) literally just from talking to people and wishing them good luck
INEX Legend Cars are a GREAT way to get started as well. Can race across 3 racing disciplines – Asphalt oval, dirt oval, or autocross. Used cars starting around $5k, brand new ones from the factory are $19k and they’re easy to work on. If you’re shorter than 6’1, you can look into INEX Bandoleros but be aware, they’re small!
